new york, new york

See, every few months, I'll see something in a magazine, on the internet, in a shop window which will prompt a fresh bout of love for the city, and I'll fall head over hills with it all over again (the other very close contender is, of course, San Francisco. For clarity's sake, Brighton doesn't figure in this little contest, as I'm ALWAYS obsessed with her. Yep, she's a girl. My girl.).

What happens in this case is that I forget all about my other fixations and spend hours scouring the internet for photographs (my new soul mate and I), but also for NY related blogs, articles, anything I can feast my eyes on and hope to take it all in. I don't usually succeed, and after a few days all I've learnt is sadly lost, forgotten. I blame it on my fickle-ness.

paperchase mini frames

A few weeks ago, for my name day, Ste gave me a bunch of super cute Paperchase magnetic frames and, whilst she'll tell you that I promptly forgot all about them (she would be lying), in truth I've been trying to decide on a theme, rigorously sepia-toned, to frame. A few were in the draw, but I'm going with New York.

So, this morning I made myself a nice hot cuppa, sat with my laptop and searched high and low for suitable photographs. I knew I wanted Greenwich Village and Brooklyn Heights, but also found others which felt so close to my heart (Little Italy, anyone?). Although I'm strongly opposed to "lifting" stuff from the 'net, and I mean strongly, till I actually get to visit the city, I'm not ashamed to admit that I've stolen 6 photographs, which I've then edited, printed and as soon as I've guillotined them, they are going to find their new home in my colourful frames. Not as rewarding as taking your own, not even close in fact, but the next best thing.

I'm also looking for a large New York print to purchase. No bigger than 70cm x 50cm portrait. Not from an American site though, the shipping would be a killer, I've checked. Any suggestions welcome.

Update with the framed pics later.

* that's until I go there myself, then I'll take a bunch of pictures and return the loot to their legitimate owners. That's a promise.
